The Viva Mexico Tango Festival was a 5-day celebration filled with passion, learning, and community. But what truly elevated this festival, in my opinion, were the so-called taxi dancers, which are dancing partners available for a fee.

A group of over 10 incredible Mexican dancers made every moment on the dance floor unforgettable for each follower. Coming from some of Mexico’s most dynamic tango cities—Ciudad de México, Leon, Morelia, Querétaro, and San Miguel de Allende—these taxi dancers exceeded every expectation of dozens of festival attendees to the tango festival in Ajijic, Jalisco.
Skilled Dancers and Teachers
What set these taxi dancers apart was not just their dazzling skills on the dance floor, but their deep expertise as teachers and performers. Many of them hold regular dance classes in their cities, sharing their love for tango with students of all levels. Their wealth of experience was evident in every step, turn, and embrace as they partnered with festival attendees, leading them through each song with confidence and elegance.
While their tango performances were mesmerizing to watch, it was their ability to connect with their dance partners that made them truly exceptional. These dancers were just as dedicated to nurturing the skills of the followers they danced with as they were to perfect their own techniques.

Surpassing Expectations
From the very first milonga, it was clear that the taxi dancers were in high demand. Their expertise, combined with their warm personalities, made them irresistible dance partners. With the crowded dance floors, these talented dancers were sought after by followers eager to experience the magic of tango under their guidance. They made every follower feel special and confident.
Beyond their technical skills, the taxi dancers’ ability to connect with their followers on a personal and emotional level is what imprinted their magic. They weren’t just leaders in the dance—they were mentors and guides, ensuring that every follower danced not only with style but also with confidence. Their approach was warm, supportive, and inclusive. They took the time to create an atmosphere where everyone, regardless of skill level, felt like they were part of something special.

Their leadership on the dance floor was mirrored off it as well. Whether it was encouraging beginners during classes or helping seasoned dancers perfect a tricky step, the taxi dancers made it their mission to make everyone feel like they were dancing at their best.
A Festival Highlight
For many, the taxi dancers were the heart and soul of the festival. Their ability to surpass all expectations—both in tango and in their personal interactions—made the Viva Mexico Tango Festival in Ajijic a one-of-a-kind experience. Over the course of the festival, it became clear that their talents weren’t just about being great dancers—they were also incredible mentors, guides, and leaders who added an extra layer of magic to the festival.
For anyone who was lucky enough to dance with these talented taxi dancers, the memory of their skill and grace will undoubtedly linger long after the final song played. They didn’t just lead dances—they made everyone feel like a part of the beautiful tango community who attended the festival from January 25 to February 3, 2025.

I hope we will have them again at next year’s festival. If you are curious to know what they do in their cities, check the following 10 taxi dancers I had the pleasure of dancing with during the Viva Mexico Tango Festival.
